5 Reasons Why It’s Time to Go Responsive Web Design

If you’ve got a website for your business or organisation, you have to make sure it adapts well when you access the website on different devices. If your website isn’t looking good on your mobile or tablet device, it is more important than ever to revamp that website.

Responsive web design was all-the-craze in 2012, and ever since then it has become the norm for websites. More and more consumers are reaching for their mobile and tablet devices first to find out information about products and services.

If you’re needing some convincing, here’s some compelling reasons to go responsive:

1. Everyone is going mobile-first

Over 60% of online traffic is sourced from mobile devices, and this figure is only increasing. More than ever your website will become the first impression of potential customers. Optimising your website for mobile is paramount for easy navigation.

2. SEO loves responsive

As part of their criteria, search engine favours websites that are responsive. This makes sense because if your website is widely accessible, no doubt it will also be more relevant to the user. Organic search engine traffic is incredibly important for businesses, so improve that ranking by going responsive!

3. No device left unturned

The flexible nature of responsive means that your website will not only look great on desktop devices, but on everything else as well. It means all mobile and tablet devices will be able to enjoy their website experience, so your business earns a great impression on customers.

4. Reduce your website’s bounce rate

Users demand quick and easy access to the information they need. If you’re needing to pinch and zoom, tapping multiple times to access something or squinting to read information, it’s going to be frustrating. Having a website that fits perfectly with the screen is the best solution to keeping your visitors happy.

5. No need to redesign

If your desktop website is currently working for you, you won’t need to fix what’s not broken. A qualified web development agency can definitely take the code you’ve currently got and rejig it. Your site will then be able to work beautifully on different devices.

Key Considerations To Take Into Account Before Building A Website

Your business website is the first impression you make to prospective clients that get in touch with your company, for the first time. And first impressions always matters. In fact, here are some key statistics to prove it:

Did you know that:

  • Approximately 96% of visitors that come to your website are not ready to buy.
  • Approximately 97% of consumers use online media to aid their purchasing decisions.
  • The more landing pages you have, the more leads you are likely to get.
  • A 1 second delay in your site speed can result in a 7% reduction in conversions.

But running a business is no small task, not to mention the skills needed to achieve the proper web development skills to drive your sales. Before you think about designing or re-designing your ‘first impression’, you need to take into account several considerations. Some of these key considerations refer to areas that deal with: accounting, management, sales and marketing skills.

Working with a complete solution provider vs. working on your own

For someone who is not tech-savvy, the idea of creating a business website sounds like the least desirable task to start working on. There are proper solutions your company can take into account, and one of the most results-driven and efficient one of this kind is the experience a well-versed web design company can provide.

Which are the key considerations you need to take into account prior to building your business website?

Your business goals

Establishing the goals for your organisation is the first step you need to take in order to help define, clarify and analyse your marketing efforts and compare them to the results you achieve.

Make sure you have a specific answer to the following questions:

  • Who is your target market?
  • What is your product?
  • Where will you sell your product?
  • When do you want bring the product to market?
  • Why are you starting your business?

When you set certain goals for your organisation, you streamline communications from within your company and align your internal teams with a common vision.

Make your Website user-friendly

The main consideration regarding this point should be creating a clean and easy-to-navigate website, no matter what industry you are representing. Some of the key elements that you need to incorporate into your web design process are represented by lightboxes, white spaces and also big font characters.

Make sure your visitors are able to easily:

  • Read content
  • Navigate from page to page
  • Subscribe to your email list
  • Leave comments
  • Share your content

Did you know that 29% of sites fail to comply with basic usability principles, and 50% of online sales are lost because visitors can’t find content?

When does too much content become an issue?

There are plenty of business owners, in particular small businesses, who strongly believe one can never have enough content to display on their page. However, too much content has the potential to diminish the number of visitors your website could be having.

According to Marketo’s VP of Marketing, Jon Miller, “The challenge is maintaining a high bar of quality; if your content is not relevant and useful to your target personas — in other words, educational and entertaining — more content might actually hurt your efforts. Buyers are already overwhelmed by brands competing for their attention; don’t make it worse with irrelevant content.”

Furthermore, receiving too much data at once, can instantly lower the quality of your web design. Consider focusing on a minimal amount of information located on the homepage and delivering only the most primary content about how your business should and can solve the customer’s need.

Your website is the first source of information for your prospective clients and it should play a crucial role in establishing the successful outcome of your business project.

In fact, 44% of online shoppers begin by using a search engine, and 61% of global Internet users research products online, according to Ispos.

11 Best Converting Landing Pages in Website Design

We have all heard about them, but do we really know what they are? People tend to associate with any page of a website one might ‘land’ on at some point or another.

We have all heard about them, but do we really know what they are? People tend to associate landing pages with any page of a website one might ‘land’ on at some point or another.

However, differentiating the term ‘web page’ with ‘landing page’ is important in order to properly establish and enhance a well-defined conversions mechanism for your website.

How do you recognise a good landing page?

First of all, when referring to a landing page, marketers address the web page that can provide a form and exists solely to capture a visitor’s information through that form.

There are many components that make up a good landing page. From headlines and calls to action to design and level of information…. it all needs to be taken into consideration. In order to figure out what works best for one website, it is important to think about the purpose and goal of each business in particular.

Take the form’s length, for example. Some marketers argue that short forms are ideal to keep the customer’s focus centered on the company’s message. However, best practices have shown that both short and long forms perform well. It all depends on the results you want to trigger: lower quality form submissions, or a smaller number of higher quality submissions.

What makes a good landing page?

According to KissMetrics, the recipe for a great landing page does not include only one ingredient. One of the best ways to create a well-performing landing page is to be able to find the alternative or mix of features that work best for you.

The basic ingredients to start with are:

  • Elements of user engagement
  • Ways to improve conversion rates
  • Successful Call to Action (CTA) commands

Do landing pages work?

Grade your website

There are a lot of online website graders that can do the work for you. In other words, these tools help you evaluate your website’s sales and marketing funnel and track the impact of your content.

Running internal reports

The final option refers to the internal reports. This includes, evaluating landing page visits, thank you page shares and CTA clicks, in order to establish which offers are performing the best and create more like them.

Improving User Experience On Your Website

If you want your online business to thrive, you need to make sure you have all the tools necessary to implement your goals and drive results. Whether you are new to online marketing or have plenty of experience running your company, the rules remain the same.

In order to make your website a success, you need to able to deliver:

  • a responsive web design and good coding/programming
  • a mobile app for your business that is available on both the AppStore and Play Store
  • high quality content that offers visitors a reason to return, build trust and increase sales
  • a streamlined client process
  • good management of SEO
  • a customised social media strategy to funnel users back to the website

What is the missing ingredient?

You can’t have an effective, functional website without an intuitive and responsive web design that ensures all customers are able to easily find what they are looking for. In other words, provide your audience with an enhanced user experience.

So what does user experience mean and why is it so important?

Make sure you don’t confuse user experience design with graphic design and web design. While the latter two focus on improving visual appearance and aesthetics, user experience has much more to do with the functionality, usability and efficiency of a website or a software.

The main benefits of user experience design:

  1. It helps users quickly and efficiently find information on your website.
  2. It encourages visitors to return and suggest your website to others.
  3. It has the potential to increase enquiries and sales.

If the content on your website is not optimised, users will leave… 61% of them to be more specific. According to uxr.ie, more than half of users said that if they didn’t find what they were looking for right away, they would quickly move on to another site.

What can you do to improve the user experience for your website?

  1. Make the navigation bar menu simpler

When you have too many items in your navigation bar you unintentionally tend to confuse and overwhelm your visitors as well. Depending on the number of items present in the menu, you should be able to organise them according to their importance and need. Ideally, it would be better to have less than 7 items in the navigation bar in order to keep things simpler.

Here is a quick way you can achieve this:

  • group pages into drop-down menu
  • move items down to your footer navigation
  • highlight the pages you remove from the navigation bar in other places on your website
  1. Create a call-to-action on each webpage

The content on each one of your web pages should guide users around your website. You can enhance the flexibility and the flow of your site by simply getting rid of ‘dead-ends’, or the pages that don’t have any call to action.

  1.   Make search bars easily accessible

This step is very important to ensure that your visitors can easily find the information they are looking for. You can do this by placing search bars in prominent areas on your site, such as landing pages, blog sidebars and so on.

  1.   Place important information above the fold

When you place important information above the fold, meaning the area of a webpage that’s viewable before a user is forced to scroll, you attract the visitor’s attention a lot better than before.

  1.   Create landing pages

A landing page will help you organise your website with regards to the type of services or products you are offering. This will provide users with helpful information and point them to individual benefits. You can also create landing pages for items on your site like newsletters or events.

A Guide To Web Hosting And Server Structure

Owning a website is no longer a complicated and overly expensive deal. Apart from the free CMS platforms such as Joomla and WordPress, you can always purchase a .com domain or a shared hosting account for less than $10 – and there you have it! Your website.

Of course, if you want to get your hands on a really good domain and really good hosting services, you may need to pull more than $10 out of your pocket. But when you think that this is an investment that can potentially boost your business profits, it is worth every penny.

What does web hosting mean?

Web hosting refers to the place where individuals or organisations store their websites. The thing with websites is that they need to be somewhere in order to be accessible. So think about web hosting as the apartment you are buying for your website to live in.

When you want to host a website you basically want to make it available to the public worldwide. So this apartment where your website lives is a server. The server exists physically somewhere in the world, but it makes your website accessible from anywhere on the globe.

There are different types of apartments that you can purchase for your website, depending on your needs and the size of the website: a shared condo, an individual suite, or its own penthouse.

Is web hosting an easy process?

The answer depends on your own understanding of running a website. In order to put up your website on the internet and share files such as HTML documents, videos and images, a server with high speed Internet connection will be needed.

But you do not need to get your head around the process. For an IT expert, the job is as easy as ABC.

What are the advantages of web hosting?

Depending on the type of web hosting you need, you can choose from a variety of packages:

Shared hosting – is a better option for anyone who is looking to find an initial space for launching a personal blog or business brochure website.

  • is the most affordable type of hosting you can find.
  • it is ideal for part time bloggers and for small businesses as well.

VPS hosting – if you have outgrown your shared hosting account this is the best choice you can make, since most websites that have more than 500 hits a day take this option.

  • it is particularly good for a medium sized e-commerce store or website
  • it is less expensive than a dedicated server.

Dedicated hostingthis is the ideal choice to make if you are setting up a large and complex e-commerce site or website. Dedicated hosting is the most powerful option to take when you need a secure place to handle the increasing demand. In general, websites that have more than 1000 hits per day choose this option.

  • it is particularly beneficial for large e-commerce sites.
  • it represents the fastest solution as you do not share any type of resources.

What is the difference between web hosting and a web server?

As opposed to hosting, a web server represents the computer on which the web pages of your website are stored (hosted).

Did you know: It is estimated that by the middle of 2016, the number of websites in the world will exceed 1 billion, after the first ever website was published on August 6, 1991 by British physicist Tim Berners-Lee in Switzerland.

More so, over 50% of websites today are hosted on either Apache or nginx, both being open source web servers. As of February of 2015, 39% of servers are being hosted on Apache and 29% on Microsoft. (>Source)

What are the essential features of a successful web hosting plan?

1.Bandwidth

The bandwidth you are using will determine the speed of your website. In other words, if you a want a fast working website, make sure you know how to manage it correctly.

Here are some quick tips to help:

  • regularly check your bandwidth usage
  • decrease the resolution of videos and images
  • learn how to manage video ads
  • size photos appropriately

This part is really important for your website success. The larger the files, the slower the website will load. And you only have about 3 seconds for the website to load before visitors will leave. This can result in a very high bounce rate and very poor SEO results.

2. Programming services

The website hosting packages allow you to create web pages using programming languages such as: HTML, PHP, ASP as well as databases. Take into account these useful tips:

  • keep things simple using a clear, reusable code
  • there is no golden rule when it comes to the best practices in software development
  • test your work

3. Uptime

The percentage of time that a hosting server stays up or running is referred to as uptime.

Bonus Tip: 99.5% is an average of 3.5 hours downtime per month, while 99.9% represents an average of 40 minutes downtime per month.

Entrepreneurship in Australia, It’s Time to Rise

A BankWest report found that Australia is a breeding ground for youthful business starters, having business owners aged 25 to 34 boomed by 8.5 per cent in the recent year of 2014.

Sadly, however, according to The Foundation for Young Australians, entrepreneurs in the 18 to 24 age bracket are underrepresented, with only 8.7% starting a new business.

Whether you opt for a lifestyle business or choose to help the lives of professional people, the opportunities lie on your home soil.

“You can be whatever it is that you want to be!”… this has to be one of the most important advice a person can receive throughout the course of their life. In the world of entrepreneurship it is the single, most relevant strategy that sets the tone for professional success.

Entrepreneurship is a calling, not a job

For most people looking to start their own business, entrepreneurship is more of a trend market. This is the wrong outlook. You must be passionate about the project you wish to endeavour in and willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen.

The first thing you must do is invest in yourself. Education is key – books, seminars, and courses must be a priority, so you are able to learn all that is required to begin a venture. In fact, most successful entrepreneurs agree that leadership is a skill that needs to be learned. It is more about grit than it is about talent.

It is a common misconception that entrepreneurship runs in the family. However, recent studies show that more than half of entrepreneurs were the first in their families to start a business, while the average age of company founders, when they started their current businesses, was 40.

Key signs that set entrepreneurs apart from the 9 ‘till 5 crowd

When developing an idea for a business, entrepreneurs should be able to answer the following questions without hesitation:

  • What is my purpose?

Materialising dreams into a profitable business starts with finding out what drives your profession. Both internal and external goals are important. Don’t do it all for the profit, but don’t forget that you need a good way to measure your success.

  • Who are my people?

Another key characteristic of a successful online entrepreneur is that they are surrounded by a team of right people. Finding the right supplier and making sure they are able to deliver the requested quality is mandatory to any profitable business. This works the same when working with the right mobile app agency, web agency in Sydney or web development agency for your business’s online brand.

From here, assemble trusted associates whose expertise will assist you in your venture. Determine what culture you want to cultivate in your business. Operating with the right cultures and values is one of the most important aspects of establishing the right work team.

  • What are my plans?

If you want your business to succeed, you need to make sure you are selling the right product. An excellent way to test your idea or validate your market is to write a survey, maybe share it with friends and then get them to pass it on to as many people as possible. When working with an app development company from Sydney, the first step to take is market research: what are the must-have features of your app that can propel it to the top of App Store or Google Play?

As simple and easy as it may sound, this is one of the most important things to do, in order to get feedback on your own idea, without having to spend a lot of money doing it.

The five most relevant qualities of a successful entrepreneur

All acknowledged entrepreneurs have something in common, and that is a success mindset. A recent Kauffman Foundation survey revealed that 75% of entrepreneurs indicated a desire to make money as an important motivation in becoming an entrepreneur, while only 4.5% said the inability to find traditional employment was an important factor in starting a company.

But money comes with a new way of thinking and doing business. Here is what sets a successful entrepreneur apart from the rest of the crowd:

  1. Reframing failure – in other words, managing to see failure as a possible feedback and take constructive criticism to a new level of profitability.
  2. Doing what others won’t – going further than most people and pushing through their own personal barriers of resistance to do what needs to be done.
  3. Knowing their own mission – refers to the ability of communicating in an effortless manner and sharing their story with the rest of the world.
  4. Delegating – not being afraid to put control in the hands of others.
  5. Having depth of vision – anticipating what clients and business needs are.

Leadership is learning, and some of the greatest lessons come from making mistakes and picking yourself back up again. For a successful entrepreneur, following the right advice and setting themselves apart from the rest of the crowd is crucial to establishing their position in the industry they are a part of.

Hostmaker.co: A Web Design & Development Case Study

How is web design making a difference in the way you run your business? What are these “accessories” magic tricks that make people fall in love with them? Apps identify a problem a business has and through brainy engineering and programming, they are launched to solve that problem. Ultimately, website contribute to growing a business’ revenue and boosting the success of a service or product.

This is also the case with HostMaker, one of our client who came to us with a unique request. In today’s article we’ll walk through our successful process of making an enterprise application for Hostmaker.co.

Who is Hostmaker.co?

Hostmaker.co is an AirBNB management service for daily hosts. They are offering 5 stars hotel-services to homes from London, Rome, and Barcelona that are listed on AirBNB.

Their team is formed by five people, all AirBNB fans. That’s why the introduce themselves as both AirBNB host and guest.

Nakul Sharma is the founder of HostMaker; an experienced individual who worked in the hotel industry. Deepti Patankar takes care of the legal inquires, Ashleigh Berger takes care of the guests’ needs, Cherie Kong is a former head housekeeper and now in charge of photographing, while Roberto Colucci makes sure the guests are happy with the services.

They have 30 years of experience in hospitality and over 5000 completed services. Their focus is on providing the best quality as fast as possible. Their services contain cleaning services, check-in services, linen hire services, and full Airbnb management.

And then they needed an app…

Hostmaker.co started with a small funding from friends and family. As it turns out, the business soon started to grow as the market’s needs were increasing. Good news for the team!

But the problem was they did not have the system to help them manage their drivers, cleaners, and linens. So, instead of being joyous of the market’s necessity for their services, they became stressed and overworked. They started looking for a completely new business solution: the full management of their inventory, scheduling, and delivery of services.

Why have they chosen an app to take care of all this hard work? An app finds a smooth way for businesses to connect with customers and vice versa. Naturally then, they contacted EB Pearls to deal with the issue at hand.

For whom do you want to create this app?

Because their business is centered on helping AirBNB hosts in three cities, Hostmaker’s target audience is the hosts. By using the app the hosts can have a much easier access to all of HostMaker’s services, and more.

And so it started…

The project started on 18th March, 2015. Our process in creating an app consists of 4 large stages.

  1. The first step is the initiation of the project.

So we had our first meeting where we discussed about what exactly the team at HostMaker were expecting from their app. An important topic during our talk was the budget. We wanted to know how much they are willing to invest so we can know how much we can expand with the features and design.

  1. Creating the project plans

And when everything goes smoothly we made a plan for the project. It is important to know that every decision and every strategy had to be passed through by your clients first. It is their app and you want them to be happy with your services.

  1. Play with the design

And when everything is approved you move to the next step and so did we. The next process is creating the design. The biggest challenge is that you need to understand what your clients think and want, and you need to combine it with your super-tech knowledge.

Final steps…

The final steps in creating an app are the development and the testing phases. It is important to test the app: test it to see if it works on multiple devices and test to see how the public reacts to it. After all, you created the app for your client’s existing customers as well as for other potential ones.

Now let’s see what we included in HostMaker’s app… Its top features include:

  • A booking system
  • A scheduling system
  • An inventory management system
  • The possibility of choosing between different languages (since the services are available in 3 European cities from 3 different countries)

Overall, the project was a success and we are glad with the results we achieved. Hostmaker are happy and satisfied with the app too, which only makes us happier. But when we’re talking about real, palpable results, the app generated more traffic on their website, leading to 300 regular AirBNB hosts (clients) at the moment.

Identifying Areas That Can Impact Your Business With Web Design

While promoting your business online was once optional, it’s now essential to your survival. Establishing a solid web presence is the key to attracting and maintaining your online customer base, but simply having a website is no longer enough. Cutting edge web design and development solutions are what’s needed to stay ahead of your competition and on top of your game, but the key to staying there lies in identifying, and capitalizing on those elements of design which have the greatest impact on your client base, and your business.

Aesthetics

First impressions carry incredible weight in a marketplace where customers are free to leave in a split second, with just the click of a mouse. Your website should represent your brand, be visually appealing to your niche market, and instantly differentiate yourself from the competition. Garish colour schemes or hard to read fonts can turn potential clients away, and excessive advertisements or pop-ups are not only annoying, but can also negatively impact your ranking with the top search engines.

Ease of Use

Consistency and clarity are the fundamentals of favourable web design and development. Navigational features such as buttons, links and menus, should be easily identifiable and consistent throughout the site, to help visitors get where they need to go, and access your products or services with ease.

Evolution

Updating your content with fresh ideas or products will entice your visitors to return, and keep the search engines searching, resulting in higher rankings; adding a blog or news section, and updating or adding relevant content on a consistent basis can help you achieve these goals. Keep up with the latest trends, know who your target market is, and make sure your site continues to meet their needs; if not, rework your design to stay current, or risk getting left behind.

Adaptability

The face of web design and development has been forever altered, with the introduction and increasing popularity, of mobile devices. The number of people that use their smartphones or tablets to access the internet grows each day, and it’s imperative that they not only be able to access your website, but navigate it as well. From a user standpoint, this means capturing the key elements of your site, with touchscreen functionality for ease of use.

Optimisation

The best looking website in the world is useless if no one can find it, and though the race to be number one in the search engine rankings is hard fought, it can be won. Since the algorithm used by these giants is constantly changing, search engine optimisation (SEO) can be tricky, but best practices remain, as the search engines consistently look for:

Performance – Fast, functional, reliable design.
Authenticity – Other, reputable websites linking to yours, or citing it as a reference.
Content – Relevant, accurate, unique content, with titles and text that match the theme of the website.

Keyword stuffing, purchased links and a poor user experience will only hurt your rankings and should be avoided at all costs.
