Digital platforms for media companies navigating a changing industry.

We've built news websites, masthead apps, reader engagement platforms, and digital brand presences for some of Australia's most recognised media companies.

We understand the speed that newsrooms require, the scale that national publishers operate at, and the reader experience that keeps audiences coming back. Both the technology and the publishing context — understood from day one.

We work best with these kinds of organisations

icons-form

National & regional publishers

Publishers managing multiple mastheads who need digital platforms — apps, websites, subscription tools — that can be built once and deployed consistently across an entire portfolio of titles.
icons-learning-1

Magazine & lifestyle media brands

Magazines and lifestyle brands transitioning from print-first to digital — where the brand identity needs to translate beautifully to screen without losing the editorial feel that makes the title distinctive.

Media companies launching new digital products

Established media businesses by launching digital products, engagement apps, puzzle platforms, community tools, strengthening audience relationships beyond publications.

What media digital leaders actually worry about when commissioning a platform

Media companies have been burned by agencies that didn't understand publishing. These are the concerns that come up in almost every first conversation.

"We operate at newsroom speed. Our agency needs to keep up not slow us down."

Managed high-pressure media operations requiring rapid response, reliable platforms, and continuous team availability during breaking news event
We've delivered for News Corp AU and UK organisations that operate at international scale under continuous editorial pressure. We understand what media-pace delivery actually needs.

"We have strong brand identities. The platform needs to feel like us not like a template."

Delivered tailored digital experiences preserving unique brand identity, audience relationships, and editorial voice across diverse media publications.

Brand identity translates to every platform we build for media clients not as decoration applied at the end, but as a design constraint that shapes every component decision from the start.

"We need to integrate with our CMS, paywall, analytics, and ad stack. It has to all work together."

Integrated complex media ecosystems including CMS, paywalls, ads, analytics, email, and notifications to ensure seamless reader experience.

Media technology integration is scoped and mapped in Discovery. We've connected to the systems that publishers actually use before quoting, not after discovering them.

"We need this to perform under traffic spikes breaking news can mean 10× normal load in minutes."

Built resilient media platforms handling extreme traffic spikes during major events, ensuring stability beyond average daily usage.
Architecture designed for spike traffic — not average load. We've built for publishers whose peak traffic events are unpredictable and uncompromising.

Media platforms fail or publishing

specific reasons.

Most agencies build websites, few understand newsroom complexity, editorial velocity, subscriptions, and media-scale architecture. The difference becomes visible when something goes wrong.

We've delivered for News Corp in Australia and the UK, built 14 masthead apps for Australia's largest independent publisher, and built reader engagement products for some of Australia's best-known magazine titles. That's the experience base that makes media delivery actually work.

We understand publishing cadences

Newsroom delivery timelines, editorial workflow integrations, and the performance requirements of platforms that can't go down when news is breaking. We've delivered at that standard.

We've built portfolio architectures

14 masthead apps for one publisher one architecture, 14 brand identities. We know how to build for portfolio scale without losing what makes each title distinctive.

icons8-cv

Brand identity is a design constraint, not a deliverable

Each media title has its own voice and visual language. We treat that as a constraint that shapes every component decision not as styling applied at the end of the build.

News Corp is one of the world's largest media companies operating news brands across Australia, the UK, and the US. Delivering websites for News Corp isn't a standard web project. The digital products media companies actually need

Media companies often receive generic solutions that fail in production under editorial pressure, breaking news spikes, and audience expectations.

Everything below is something we've built before — for publishers who operate at real scale, under real editorial pressure, with real audiences who notice when the platform doesn't hold up.

01

News Websites & Editorial Platforms

High-performance news websites built for the editorial velocity of a live newsroom CMS integration, ad stack connectivity, subscription mechanics, and the architecture to handle breaking news traffic without degrading.

02

Masthead & Publication Apps

iOS and Android apps for newspapers and magazines built for portfolio publishers who need multiple title identities on shared infrastructure, and for individual titles who need a mobile experience that matches their brand.

03

Reader Engagement Platforms

Puzzle apps, loyalty programs, community tools, and reader-submitted content platforms digital products that extend the audience relationship beyond the publication and create daily engagement with the brand.

04

Subscription & Paywall Infrastructure

Subscription flows, metered paywall mechanics, and reader revenue infrastructure built to convert browsers to subscribers without friction, and to retain them without the experiences that drive churn.

05

Magazine & Lifestyle Digital Presences

Digital platforms for magazine and lifestyle brands where editorial identity and visual richness need to translate to screen with the same precision that the print team applies to every layout decision.

06

Media Technology Integration

CMS, paywall, ad server, analytics, email, and push notification integrations connecting the publishing technology stack into a platform that works as a whole rather than as disconnected systems.

Our system for building media platforms that hold up under publishing pressure

Media platforms fail in specific ways under traffic spikes, during CMS migrations, when the ad stack changes, or when editorial workflows discover that the platform wasn't built with them in mind. Built to Last™ is how we prevent those failures.
01

Editorial & Performance Ready

  • Architecture built for breaking news traffic — not average load
  • CMS integration designed for editorial workflows under deadline
  • Page performance that holds up when every second costs readers
  • Content delivery designed for the speed newsrooms require
  • Caching strategies that balance freshness with performance
  • Monitoring that finds degradation before editorial does
02

Integration Ready

  • CMS integrations mapped and tested before build starts
  • Ad stack connected without compromising page performance
  • Paywall mechanics that convert without creating friction
  • Analytics platform integration for the data publishers actually need
  • Push and email notification infrastructure at audience scale
  • Third-party integrations versioned so updates don't break production
03

Scale & Brand Ready

  • Portfolio architecture for multiple mastheads on shared infrastructure
  • Brand identity treated as a design constraint, not a style guide
  • Traffic spike architecture for election nights, major sporting events
  • Multi-device consistency from desktop to mobile without degradation
  • Reader data handling to Australian privacy standard
  • Post-launch support that understands publishing's continuous cycle

A process built for publishing complexity

Media projects involve editorial workflows, publishing technology stacks, brand governance, and audience expectations that need to be mapped before building anything. Our process is designed for that reality.

Launch & Ongoing

Media platforms don't stand still editorial requirements change, technology stacks evolve, audience behaviour shifts. Post-launch support structured in from day one, with the response times that publishing requires.
SLA-backed support at publishing pace. Most clients stay for years.

Questions healthcare buyers always eventually ask

We'd rather answer these here than have them surface after a commitment has been made.

In almost every case, yes — and we recommend it. Replacing a CMS that editorial teams have years of workflow investment in creates adoption risk that far outweighs any platform benefit. We map your CMS integration requirements in Discovery and design the new platform to connect to what's already there. The build is integration-first rather than replacement-first unless Discovery reveals a compelling reason to change.

Auto-scaling infrastructure on AWS or equivalent means you're not paying for peak capacity on quiet days — but you have it when you need it. CDN configuration, caching strategies, and database read replica design are the specific decisions that determine whether a platform holds up during a major news event. These are architecture decisions made in Discovery and Design — not configuration added after a performance incident.

Full IP ownership on delivery. Every line of code, every design asset, every integration. No proprietary dependencies. No lock-in. Written into the contract from the start.

Portfolio architecture is a different discipline from single-product development. We build a shared infrastructure layer that handles the common components — content delivery, subscription mechanics, analytics, push notifications — and a brand layer above it that gives each title its own identity. The 14 ACM masthead apps were built this way: one architecture, 14 distinct experiences. Updates to shared components propagate across the portfolio; brand customisations stay per-title.

Paywall mechanics are a product design problem before they're a technology problem. Metered access, registration walls, hard paywalls, and hybrid models each convert differently for different audience types. We map your reader revenue strategy in Discovery and design the subscription flow as a core product component — not a third-party widget added at the end. The difference in conversion rate between a well-designed and a poorly-designed registration flow is significant and measurable.
