It’s important for every professional business to have a professional website. That means a site not made on a website builder. Sure, services like Wix make website building easy, but they do not make it professional.

Here’s why you should never use a website builder to market your business.

It’s More Expensive

Website builders often advertise themselves as free, but it’s not true.

A website builder might give you access to their most basic features for free, but these will only get you so far. That means buying packages that allow for more customization. Hosting your website through a builder also means paying a monthly fee to keep it up.

Hiring a web designer may seem more expensive at face value, but it’s not. You only have to pay a web designer once. Plus, the quality of the site will be much higher.

It’s Restrictive

Easy isn’t always a good thing. When it comes to website builders, easy just means ‘restrictive.

Default drag-and-drop site builders are inarguably convenient. But you’re only given so many design options. You’ll inevitably come to a point where you can’t do what you want to when using a website builder.

When you hire a web designer, they’ll code your website from the ground up. They can pull off much more intricate and specific tricks. They’re not restricted to snap-points, text boxes, and default designs.

If you want your website to truly represent your business, hire a web designer. Using a builder runs the risk of having your website look identical to hundreds of others. The most successful websites are always the ones that stand out.

Bad URLs, Annoying Ads

Website builder URLs are almost never pretty. They’ve got random characters and symbols thrown throughout. Unless you pay more, your URL is going to be hard for others to remember, and even harder for them to respect.

On top of that is the annoying ads. Many website builders will stick ads for their own business on your site. Whether these are banner ads, or watermarks, they’re extremely unprofessional.

Which transitions us nicely into our next point…

Website Builders Only Care About Themselves

A website builder doesn’t care if your website succeeds. They care about your money first and foremost. They won’t offer you any advice, or tailor your site towards your audience or service.

This is why builders are so shameless about advertising themselves on your site. They know the occasional visitor will like the flashiness of your site and employ them. But you want the focus on your service, not on Wix’s or SquareSpace’s.

The site’s flashy design will often overthrow your product or service.

A Professional Business Deserves a Professional Website

If you’re running a professional business, you need a professional website. It may seem more costly at first, but the results won’t disappoint. You’ll see more traffic, and garner a lot more respect from other professionals.

Don’t fall for the easy way out. Easy is not always better.
